PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance image quality even if the number of kinds of generable pulse width is small. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises an LD control section 10 performing PWM lighting control of a light beam at a density equal to integer (2 or above) times of the input image density depending on inputted image data wherein various kinds of gray scale pulse comprising any one of right shift pulse or left shift pulse of various pulse widths or the combination thereof, in correspondence with the gray scale information included in the image data, are stored in a PWM signal generating section 12 where a corresponding gray scale pulse is selected and read out according to the gray scale information included in the inputted image data before being delivered, as a PWM signal, to an LD drive section 13.
