PURPOSE: To perform good magnetic transfer to a perpendicular magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION: A permanent magnet device 5 provided with cylindrical permanent magnets 5a and 5b having a cross section area equivalent to or more than the track surface of a discoid perpendicular magnetic recording medium 2 is used as a transfer magnetic field generating means of a magnetic transfer device. The magnetic recording medium 2 in which initial direct current magnetization is applied to a magnetic layer in a perpendicular direction in advance and the contact body 10 of discoid master carriers 3 and 4 are placed between the two permanent magnets 5a and 5b, so that a transfer magnetic field Hdu is applied in the reverse direction of the initial direct current magnetization direction. Then, a transfer magnetic field Hd is uniformly applied to the whole track surface area, and the magnetic transfer of the whole track surface area is carried out at the same time.
