摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and convenient method for synthesizing aluminum oxide nitride sintered compact excellent in light transmissivity by reacting- sintering alumina powder and aluminum nitride powder without using a sintering assistant. SOLUTION: The method is intended for obtaining aluminum oxide nitride sintered compact excellent in light transmissivity by turning attention to grain size and crystal structure of starting raw material powder. Sinterability is improved without affecting light transmissivity by using &gamma; alumina powder of <=0.2 &mu;m average grain size and aluminum nitride of <=0.5 &mu;m average grain size. Thus aluminum oxide nitride sintered compact of high light transmissivity can be obtained without applying special sintering conditions.
