PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optically active polyester (photoreactive chiral agent) which is photosensitive so that the helical pitch (twist force) of liquid crystal can be greatly changed by a light and which gives a good resolution. SOLUTION: The optically active polyester consists of at least structural units of general formula (I) (Ar<1> and Ar<2> are each a divalent aromatic group or a divalent heterocyclic aromatic ring group; and X<1> and X<2> are each H or an electron attracting group) and general formula (II) (A is a divalent substituent).
