PRODUCTION METHOD FOR POLYGLUTARIMIDE RESIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in producing a composition by mixing a polyglutarimide resin with a transparent thermoplastic resin, e.g. polyacrylonitrile-styrene or polyvinyl chloride, these resins are not completely compatible with each other and can not give a transparent composition since a polyglutarimide resin usually has an acid/acid anhydride content of 0.3 milliequivalent or higher per g-resin. SOLUTION: The acid/acid anhydride content of a polyglutarimide resin can be decreased to 0-99% of the initial value at a low temperature in a short time by esterifying acids and acid anhydrides in the polyglutarimide resin with a tetraalkylammonium hydroxide/a methyl halide; thus, the compatibility with other thermoplastic resins can be improved.
