METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING GLASS PARTICULATE DEPOSIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a glass particulate deposit which is capable of obtaining a soot body having decreased fluctuations in the external diameter in a longitudinal direction without increasing the non-effective portion formed at the end of the soot body. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the glass particulate deposit comprises arranging a plurality of glass particulate-synthesizing burners in one row so as to face a rotating starting rod, regulating the spacings between the respective burners with each other, setting the soot synthesizing conditions in the respective burners so as to alternately vary from each other and depositing the soot on the surface of a starting rod in such a manner that the soot body having the decreased fluctuations in the external diameter in the longitudinal direction is obtained. An apparatus used for the same is also provided.
