The solid catalyst component for polymerization of olefins comprising (a) a magnesium compound, (b) titanium tetrachloride, (c) a phthalic acid diester or a derivative thereof, and (d<1>) a hydroxy group-containing hydrocarbon compound having a specific structure or (d<2>) a mercapto group-containing hydrocarbon compound having a specific structure and the olefin polymerization catalyst can produce olefin polymers in a very high yield, particularly can produce propylene polymers in a very high yield, while retaining high stereoregularity. <IMAGE>
