PURPOSE: An electron gun for a CRT is provided to maximize use efficiency of magnetic field generated by a scanning velocity modulation(SVM) coil, while effectively preventing deterioration of focus caused due to an external electric field. CONSTITUTION: An electron gun comprises an electron emitting cathode(10); an SVM coil(16) for synchronizing the position of electron beam emitted from the cathode with a video signal; a plurality of grid electrodes(G1 to G5) including a focus electrode constituted by first and second split electrodes for forming a gap(g1) for passage of the magnetic field generated from the SVM coil, wherein grid electrodes control the electron beam emitted from the cathode; a support for fixing grid electrodes; and a shield electrode(G4-3) electrically connected to first and second split electrodes, in such a manner that the electron beam passing through first and second split electrodes is not influenced by an electric field applied from an external source. The shield electrode includes a plurality of plate electrodes(G4-3') disposed in the gap formed between first and second split electrodes; and a connecting electrode(G4-3'') for electrically connecting plate electrodes to first and second split electrodes.
