PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a halogen-substituted dibenzyl alcohol, a halogen-substituted dibenzyl alcohol and use thereof. SOLUTION: This method enables simple production of highly pure halogen- substituted dibenzyl alcohol by reduction of the corresponding halogen-substituted terephthalic acid and reaction with an alkylating agent, sulfuric acid, alkyl or arylsulfonic acid. The resultant highly pure halogen-substituted dibenzyl alcohol is suitable in particular for production of pharmaceutically or agrochemically active compounds.
