<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ATM(asynchronous transfer mode) adaptation layer type 5 communication equipment that provides a high-order layer data communication service such as transmission of an IP(internet protocol) packet or a MAC(media access control) frame via an ATM layer network and can reduce an overhead of higher-order layer protocol type information and effectively exploits a padding area so as to effectively utilize a network band. SOLUTION: A CPI(common part identifier) generating section 1-1 receives packet attribute information of a high-order layer and generates an identifier depending on the packet attribute information. An extended AAL5(ATM adaptation layer type 5) trailer generating section 1-4 generates a trailer resulting from storing an identifier received from the CPI generating section 1-1 into a common part identifier CPI in a trailer of the AAL5-PDU(protocol data unit) and an extended AAL5 frame processing section 1-5 attaches the trailer to the received packet and transmits the resulting packet. Furthermore, the extended AAL5 frame processing section 1-5 sets maintenance operation control information or the like for the network and the connection as padding data of the AAL5-PDU and transmits the resulting packet.</p> |
