METHOD FOR CONVERTING RANGE DATA OF OBJECT TO MODEL OF THE OBJECT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convert laser range and scanning data into a three-dimensional digital model by using a sampled distance field. SOLUTION: By this method, an adaptive sample distance field is generated from range data first and then the range data of the object are converted into the model of the object. Then the adaptive sample distance field is edited to generate a model. The range data may include a plurality of range images to be converted into range meshes of a single coordinate system and adaptive sample distance fields are generated for the respective range meshes.
