PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work device for an inclined shaft that can safen work in an inclined shaft by extending a hoistway according to the progress of the inclined shaft constructed and ensuring a function adaptable to construction work. SOLUTION: The work device for an inclined shaft comprises a travel rail 11 with a rack annexed to an inner surface of the inclined shaft 2 and successively extendable, a carrier 20 having a drive device of a driving wheel guided by the travel rail 11 and meshed with the rack on the travel rail 11, and a carrier support structure 30 capable of lifting the carrier 20 upward of a mouth of the inclined shaft 2 to retreat it from the inclined shaft 2.
