PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet size detecting device and a sheet handling device that do not cause misdetection of sheet size. SOLUTION: A sheet set tray 1 comprises a sheet width detecting sensor 2 and a first sheet length detecting sensor 6. The sheet width detecting sensor 2 has a variable resistor 4, and a characteristic of the variable resistor 4 is converted to approximate straight line. When sheet size data calculated from the straight line are in a predetermined range from a regular size data, the approximate sheet size data calculated from the straight line are processed as the regular size data.
