PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording and reproducing device that can surely record a scene on a desired disk even when a disk is replaced so as to easily set video recording reservation. SOLUTION: In the video recording reservation executing processing, a DVD recording and playing-back device 100 uses a controller 2 to read a disk ID in video recording reservation setting contents and stores the ID to a storage section 6. The DVD recording and playing-back device 100 sequentially reads and stores the disk ID of each disk contained in a stocker until a disk whose ID is coincident with the disk ID of the video recording reservation setting contents is detected, when the DVD device 100 detects the disk whose ID is coincident with the disk ID of the video recording reservation setting contents, the DVD device 100 extracts the disk and records the video image based on the video recording reservation setting contents. When there exists no disk whose ID is coincident with the disk ID of the video recording reservation setting contents, the DVD device 100 conducts no video recording processing, stores a reason of non execution to the storage section 6, makes error display as required and informs a user about the error termination of the processing.
