PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a short circuit between a first electrode and a second electrode at a defective point of an insulating layer between a luminescent layer and the second electrode, in an EL element composed by sequentially stacking at least the first electrode, the luminescent layer, the insulating layer and the second electrode on an insulating substrate. SOLUTION: A cavity part 41 without the luminescent layer 4 is formed under a region 51 without the second insulating layer 5 formed between the luminescent layer 4 and the second electrode 6. The second electrode 6 is separated from the first insulating layer 3 under the luminescent layer 4 by the cavity part 41.
