PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately rewrite data into a nonvolatile memory without any hindrance to normal control. SOLUTION: A battery 21 is connected to an ECU 10 through an IG switch 22 and when the IG switch 22 is turned on, the ECU 10 is supplied with electric power. The ECU 10 is equipped with a power circuit 11, a CPU 12, a RAM 13, a flash ROM 14, an EEPROM 15, and an input/output port 16. The flash ROM 14 stores various control programs and data. The CPU 12 judges whether data need to be rewritten to the flash ROM 14 when the IG switch 22 is turned on and writes the same data as the data written in the flash ROM 14 to the flash ROM 14 again when the data need to be rewritten. After the rewriting, normal engine control is started.
