Method for improving the dispersion of fillers in hydrocarbon elastomers comprises adding a diguanidine compound of formula (I) together with the filler and elastomer. x = 0-4; A, B = 1-10C alkylene or 4-10C alkenylene, or A+B can form a 5-6C cycloalkylene group, provided that A and B comprise at least two C atoms when x = 1-4; and R1-R8 = H; 1-6C alkyl; 6-10C aryl or aralkyl optionally substituted by alkyl; or 6-10C cycloalkyl; or two of R1-R4 and/or two of R5-R8 can form a 5- or 6-membered ring; provided that at least two of R1-R4 and at least two of R5-R8 are H. An Independent claim is also included for vulcanized hydrocarbon elastomers having a homogeneous filler distribution and containing at least one compound (I).
