PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a client device or the like that can recognize a proper mail server to be accessed to receive electronic mail. SOLUTION: A mail server 104 stores a 1st cross-reference list that cross- references a mail account MA with a client's telephone number NA and a client 105 stores a 2nd cross-reference list that cross-references a caller number NB of an incoming call, an access destination telephone number NC and a mail server SERV with each other. Upon the receipt of new mail, the server 104 identifies the telephone number of the destination client 105 from the 1st cross-reference list and makes a call to the telephone number by using the caller number notice system. When an incoming call arrives, the client 105 recognizes the caller number by using the caller number notice function, retrieves the access destination and mail server corresponding to the caller number from the 2nd cross-reference list and selects and sets them as the actually accessed destination and mail server.
