PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel post prevented from causing looseness and a clearance between a sleeper and the steel post by thinning of wood or vibration. SOLUTION: This steel post wherein a bar member (a bolt) 12 with a base 14 fixed to the lower end part is fitted in a freely projecting and receding manner to a pipe 11 with a sleeper receiver 13 fixed to the upper end part, is provided with a lock mechanism 15 for preventing the bolt 12 from receding, and a spring member 19 energizing the lock mechanism 15 to come in pressure contact with the pipe 11 in the projecting direction of the bolt 12 from the pipe 11. When a sleeper 1 is about to be displaced due to load or vibration applied thereto, the lock mechanism 15 is locked to the bar member 12 to impede the axial movement. When the looseness and clearance are produced between the sleeper 1 and the sleeper receiver 13 due to thinning of wood, the bolt 12 is projected by the pressing force of the spring member 19 to prevent the occurrence of the looseness and clearance.
