Soap-free cosmetic composition comprises starch and an ester selected from (a) liquid esters of C4-C30 carboxylic acids and C1-C30 alcohols, the acid and/or alcohol being branched or having at least one carbon-carbon double bond; and (b) esters of C7-C30 aromatic carboxylic acids and C1-C30 alcohols, the carboxy function of the acid being directly bonded to the aromatic ring.
