PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-aqueous electrolyte battery that has a large initial- stage discharge capacity and a superior cycle life characteristic. SOLUTION: The non-aqueous electrolyte battery contains at least one kind of an oxy nickel hydroxide or its derivatives in the positive electrode and at least one kind of a material capable of receiving and releasing metal lithium or lithium in the negative electrode. Within the battery, alkaline metal or/and alkali earth metal other than lithium are contained 2 mol% or less against the mol quantity of the positive electrode active substance.
