PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for softening and contracting a polystyrene foam, a polyurethane foam, or a plastic by treatment with a liquid. SOLUTION: A polystyrene foam, a polyurethane foam, or a plastic is brought into contact with a liquid prepared by heating an alcohol such as a polyol, especially, a diol or a triol, to 60-180 deg.C to soften and contract it.
