The device has a drive pulley (7) with relatively large diameter and adapted to cover a width portion of a ring torque type AC motor (19) so as to reduce the width of the unit comprising the motor and the pulley. The motor-pulley unit is fixed inside an upper lintel supporting the elevator booth doors. Independent claims are included for the following: (a) the electric motor; (b) and the support lintel for elevator booth doors.
