PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard disk type magnetic recording medium using a resin substrate which effectively suppresses production of cracks in the resin substrate, shows preferable environmental storage characteristics against high temperature and high humidity and is suitable as a hard disk system. SOLUTION: A first nonmagnetic base film, second nonmagnetic base film, magnetic information recording film, protective film and lubricant are successively deposited on a resin substrate. The first nonmagnetic base film consists of an alloy essentially comprising Cr and containing Nb, Ta or W by >=12 at.% and <=40 at.%. The first nonmagnetic base film is formed to >=1 nm and <=20 nm thickness. Further, oxygen atoms are incorporated into the surface of the resin substrate.
