PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft seal device capable of preventing the component of the fluid inside an apparatus from accumulating in a clearance between the inner diameter of the bottom of a packing box and a shaft. SOLUTION: A bush 8 with a spiral-shaped groove 14 communicating with the outer peripheral side and the inner peripheral side is disposed nearer to the sealed liquid side than the grand packing 7d nearest to the sealed liquid size in the packing box 3. The gas fed from a gas feeding means 16 to a gas filling port 12 formed through the packing box 3 is introduced into the groove 14 of the bush 8 to be blown over the packing sliding surface.
