PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel organic polymer which can emit multicolor light in response to the change in excitation wavelength; to provide its production method; and the use of the organic polymer. SOLUTION: A salicylideneaniline polymer having structural units represented by formula (I) (wherein R<1> and R<2> are each H, a halogen, an alkoxycarbonyl, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group bonded, directly or via an oxygen atom, to a carbon atom of a benzene ring, or a group which, together with a benzene ring, forms a condensed aromatic ring or a heteroaromatic ring) is provided. The salicylideneaniline polymer is produced by condensing a 2- hydroxyterephthalaldehyde compound with an aromatic diamine compound. A multicolor luminescent material containing the salicylideneaniline polymer is provided.
