PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing methallyl methacrylate useful e.g. as a raw material for crosslinking agent, graft crossing agent and silane monomer from a safe and common starting material with a common catalyst. SOLUTION: The method for producing methallyl methacrylate comprises the 1st step to produce 2-hydroxy-2-methylpropyl methacrylate from methacrylic acid or a methacrylic acid ester and isobutylene glycol and the 2nd step to produce methallyl methacrylate from the 2-hydroxy-2-methylpropyl methacrylate by dehydration reaction.
