PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a halogen-bearing aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydride that is useful as a material for resins having excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance and low dielectric properties, a halogen-bearing aromatic tetracarboxylic acid that is useful as a starting material for the dianhydride and a halogen-bearing aromatic tetranitrile and methods for producing them. SOLUTION: The objective halogen-bearing aromatic tetranitrile is represented by the following formula (1) (wherein X is chlorine, bromine or iodine; m is an integer of 1-4; n is an integer of 0-3 where m+n=4).
