PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eddy-current speed reducer wherein the movement thereof is controlled with reliability and ease even if a permanent magnet is located on the rotation side, and in which cylindrical portions of a stator are cooled efficiently. SOLUTION: A coil 25 is wound on a cylindrical member 21 which supports a movable stator 9, and a power supply apparatus 26 for supplying the coil 25 with power is installed, and the permanent magnet 27 is installed on the inner circumferential surface of an annular casing 8 which is opposed to the coil 25 when the movable stator is at a non-braking position, and used as a moving means for moving the movable stator 9.
