PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a plating layer only on the outer peripheral sliding surface of a two-piece type oil ring. SOLUTION: The method of forming an SiO2 film over the entire part of an oil ring body, removing the SiO2 film (I) of the outer peripheral sliding surface, forming the plating layer on the outer peripheral sliding surface and removing the remaining SiO2 film (II).
