PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a limiting current type oxygen sensor capable of controlling properly a sensor output current value at the manufacturing time, without changing the external form of the whole sensor element and a porous oxygen gas rate controller substrate. SOLUTION: This limiting current type oxygen sensor having a desired output current value is manufactured by selecting a negative plate 3 having a prescribed area at the manufacturing time against a fixed positive plate 1 and the porous oxygen gas rate determiner substrate 4. Namely, an optional sensor output current can be acquired by selecting the negative plate 3 having the prescribed area at the manufacturing time, by paying attention to the fact that the output current characteristic of the limiting current type oxygen sensor constituted by laminating the positive plate 1, an oxygen ion electric conductor 2, the negative plate 3, and the porous oxygen gas rate determiner substrate 4 in this order is proportional not only to the permeability of the porous oxygen gas rate determiner substrate 4 but also to the electrode plate area, especially the area of the negative plate 3. |
