PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate having high contrast, small residual stress and high dimensional stability and a liquid crystal display device using the same. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate is constructed by sticking a polarizing film having <=18 μm thickness formed by dyeing a polyvinyl alcohol type film with iodine and subsequently by uniaxially stretching five times or more, cross- linking and drying it, and a protective film to each other. In-plane retardation (Δnd) of the polarizing plate is kept to be >=500 nm and <=1,000 nm. |
