<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable high-speed processing when image data of the point sequential system are encoded/decoded while converting the image data into data of the area sequential system. SOLUTION: The image encoder is provided with a pixel value distribution generating means 13 that detects a distribution state of pixel values of image data of the point sequential system, prediction information encoding means 17a-17d that extract a specific prediction information code from the pixel value distribution where any of color components of a pixel is the same as that of peripheral pixels based on the distribution state, error encoding means 18a-18d that extract a prediction error code identified from the pixel value distribution where any of color components of a pixel is different from that of peripheral pixels by each color component, and area code synthesis means 19a-19d that individually synthesize a prediction error code by each color component with a common prediction information code with each color component to obtain encoded data to be decoded to image data adopting the area sequential system.</p> |
