Process comprising tempering a thin layer of Bi and Mn on a mica substrate in a magnetic field applied normally to the Bi-Mn layer is improved by using other substrates, e.g. glass, and instead of Bi, its mixture with another semimetal, e.g. Sb, in concs. varying along the normal to the layer. Before the tempering which can be carried out in air at 140-400 degrees C for 0.1-6 hrs., the system is provided with a protection coating. The products are used for information storage by the thermomagnetic recording method.
