The child seat (7) has a seat fixing strap (12) for attaching the child seat to a fixing (3) secured to the automobile chassis and a crank mechanism, for pivot adjustment of the relative position of the seat squab (8) and the backrest (10) of the child seat, operated by a removable pump lever (14), fitted to the pivot axis at the side of the seat squab. The pump lever is displaced between a position allowing forwards tipping of the backrest, a free-wheel position and a position allowing backwards movement of the backrest.
