Heading C2C. o-Anilinophenylacetic acid esters of the general formula wherein R 1 is a C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy group, a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom or the trifluoromethyl group; R 2 is hydrogen or is defined as R 1 ; R 3 is hydrogen, a C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy group or a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom; R 4 is hydrogen or a C 1-4 alkyl group; R 5 and R 6 are each hydrogen, a C 1-2 alkyl group or the benzyl group or, when R 6 is hydrogen, R 5 may be a C 1-5 alkyl group; and R 7 is a C 1-6 alkyl group or an aralkyl group having at most 3 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety, are prepared by reaction of an o-nitrophenylacetic acid ester of the general formula with at least double the molar amount of an aryl magnesium halide of the general formula wherein Hal is a bromine or iodine atom, with the proviso that it has a higher atomic number than every halogen atom bound aromatically in the phenyl radical, and decomposition of the intermediate so formed with saturated ammonium chloride solution.</p> |
