1,151,318. Tungsten-halogen lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 Oct., 1967 [8 Oct., 1966], No. 45504/67. Heading H1F. In the manufacture of a tungsten-halogen lamp in which the transport gas contains both bromine and chlorine, the last stages of manufacture comprise evacuating the lamp bulb, filling the bulb from a storage cylinder containing an inert gas and one or more hydrocarbon compounds containing between them bromine and chlorine and sealing the bulb. Separate hydrocarbon compounds respectively containing one only of bromine and chlorine, e.g. methyl chloride and methyl bromide, may be used or alternatively a single hydrocarbon compound containing both bromine and chlorine, e.g. CH 2 BrCl, CHBr 2 Cl or CHBrCl 2 . The inert gas may be krypton or argon with a small proportion of nitrogen. The invention may be applied to the manufacture of long verticallymounted cylindrical lamps having a high loading. In such an arrangement the chlorine is mainly operative at the upper end of the lamp and bromine is mainly operative at the lower end.
|
