The device has light barriers and an OCR, a pulse generator, an evaluation unit with a system clock and a partly software-base arrangement for storing, recording and evaluating data re the number and type of destroyed vouchers and machine parameters, a data output arrangement and a voltage supply unit. The detection arrangement with light barriers before/after the OCR for detecting voucher serial numbers is mounted directly on a destruction unit. The device has light barriers (2,3) and an optical character reader or OCR (4), a pulse generator (6), an evaluation unit with a system clock and a partly software-base arrangement for storing, recording and if required evaluating data re the number and type of destroyed vouchers and re machine parameters, a data output arrangement (7,8) and a voltage supply unit (9). The detection arrangement with light barriers before and after the OCR for detecting voucher serial numbers is mounted directly on a voucher destruction unit (10).
