Drying scales have a weighing system (1) with a scale pan and a heat source (11) for warming and drying a sample (9) in the pan. The sample temperature is measured with a temperature sensor (4) and used by a controller to adjust the heat source to a set temperature. The weight and moisture content of the sample is determined using the digital analysis electronics (5,6) from which the weight lost per unit time can be calculated and if necessary the settings for the heat source changed.
