System comprises a sensor (4) for determining steering angle, a yaw angle velocity sensor (5) and a transverse acceleration sensor (6). A visual output is provided to inform the drive of tire friction conditions. Means are also provided for temporary automatic control of vehicle systems such as braking, acceleration or steering. Additional sensor for determining vehicle dynamic behavior include a wind velocity sensor (8), shock absorber deflection sensor (7) and inclination sensor (10).
