A reeling-off device for steel wire reels the wire (29) upward and has a swivel (23, 19), which leads the wire downward through the centre of the wire coil (20) and out the side below the coil. On the upper portion of the wire coil a structure (21) is attached, which carries a ring with an outwardly directed bristle rim (26). The bristle rim constitutes a brake for the wire (29) and brakes the wire at sudden stops at the wire feed, so that the risk of knot formation in the wire is reduced. The device comprises also a balancing magazine (33-35), which forms a spring-loaded wire loop.
