The invention relates to a method for digitizing images recorded on film material firstly involving an electronic color value correction, which is independent from user inputs, after the image is converted using a digitizin g device (3). Once the electronic color value is corrected according to featur es of the digitizing device (3) and to film material properties, a user- controllable correction and manipulation of the electronically stored information is subsequently carried out. The electronic color value correcti on is dependent upon parameters that can be adapted to varying features of the digitizing device (3). A film scanner adapted to this method comprises a digitizing device (3) and a device for effecting the controllable correction (5) of the converted image data. A discreetly designed device for performing electronic color value correction (5) is connected between the digitizing device (3) and the device for effecting a controllable correction (4). An interface (6) for inputting and outputting electronically stored correction data is connected to the device for performing electronic color value correction (5).
