A light emitting device comprising a light guide unit for emitting light beamed into via an end face thereof from a main surface thereof, and light emitting diodes optically coupled with an end face of the light guide unit, characterized in that an end face of the light guide unit is partly allowed to project, the projecting surface has a first light guide element optically coupled with a first light emitting diode, the remaining portion of the end face has a second light guide element optically coupled with a second light emitting diode, and the first and second light emitting diodes respectively can emit mixed-color lights each having at least two light emitting peaks. The above structure can make compatible a color mixability improvement with a luminance improvement, and form the device very compact.
