<p>A system comprising a base unit (14) and a remote unit (16) for transmitting telephonic data on AC power lines is disclosed. The base unit (14) includes a transmitter section (22), a receiver section (24), a power line interface (20), a telephone line interface (26), a power supply (21), and a first microcontroller (28). The telephone line interface is coupled to a telephone line to apply the telephonic data signals to and receive signals from the telephone line. The telephone line interface (26) has a ring detector (200), a muting circuit (210), and a hook switch (230). The transmitter (22) is coupled to the telephone line interface (26) and the power line interface (20). The transmitter has a modulator (218), an oscillator (220), an amplifier (216), and a filter (214). The receiver (24) is coupled the telephone line interface (26) and the power line interface (20). The receiver has a filter (222), an amplifier (224), and a detector (226). The remote unit (16) includes a transmitter section (32), a receiver section (34), a power line interface (30), a telephone interface (36), a power supply (31), and a second microcontroller (38). The telephone interface (36) is coupled to a piece of telephone equipment to transmit the telephonic data signals to and receive signals from said telephone equipment.</p> |
