An image recording medium and an image recording apparatus for making a high-quality image print from image data stored in any of plural types of recording media. Moreover, in order to provide an image recording medium capable of updating information related to the recording medium, information recording means is provided on the image recording medium and information related to image recording medium is written there, so that the operation condition of the image recording apparatus is controlled by the information. Moreover, information changed by use of the recording medium can be written in and updated, so that information of the image recording medium can accurately be detected.
