Process for thermally treating metal strands, especially steel strips comprises heating the strand at a speed corresponding to the required production amount and under a high temperature gradient; and adjusting the metal strand temperature in the millisecond to second region by inductive heating using a flux concentrator on the strand. An Independent claim is also included for a device for thermally treating metal strands, especially steel strips comprising induction coils (4) arranged on either side of the metal strand (1) parallel to the plane (3) of the metal strand. The hollow chambers of the coils are filled with a flux concentrator.
