A device is provided to influence the thread (2). On thread interruption, it momentarily handles and/or treats the end section of the on-running thread. This influence reduces adherence of the thread end (22) onto the spool (8) surface, in comparison with the rest of the threads. Preferred features: The device is constructed to reduce hairiness of the thread and/or for mechanical effect on the thread. It comprises a roller pair. It applies fluid to the thread, e.g. using a sprayer. It has at least one air nozzle influencing the running thread. A device parts the secured end of the thread before making the thread join required for winding continuation. Parting is so executed that the separated thread section is included with the handled thread section.
