A heat exchanger, for use particularly as a feedwater heater, includes within a cylindrical vessel 10 a nest of tubes 23, the ends of which open into a single cylindrical header 11 arranged coaxially in one end of the vessel, which header comprises a tube drum 12 divided along part of its length by a division member 13 into an annular fluid inlet space 14, with which one end of each tube 23 communicates, and a central fluid outlet space 15, with which the other end of said tube communicates. The tubes 23, arranged axi-symmetrically within the vessel to form a tube nest 24, having coaxial cylindrical downward-pass and upward-pass portions 24A, 24B resp., connected by a U-tube portion, the portions 24A, 24B being separated over the upper part of their length by a thermally insulating screen 25. In operation as a feedwater heater, steam enters the vessel 10 via an air inlet duct (29, Fig. 1) and passes into a central duct 27 suspended from the header drum 12, said duct 27, which is divided into passages 27A, 27B by a baffle, is provided with an outlet port 31 in passage 27A, and an inlet port (32) in passage 27B to assist in passing the steam through the vessel to outlet duct 34.</p> |
