PRECIPITATED THICKENING SILICA GRANULES OBTAINED BY GRANULATION AND USE THEREOF AS THICKENING AGENT IN DENTAL COMPOSITIONS

The invention concerns precipitated thickening silica granules having a median diameter of at least 250 mu m and exhibiting a cohesion factor FC of 0.45 to 0.75, obtained by wet process granulation of precipitated thickening silica in a high shear apparatus, drying and optionally screening, the granulation step being carried out using at least a precipitated thickening silica powder (a) having: a DOP of at least 230 ml/100g; a median diameter D50a of at least 14 mu m, and water (W) as binder, the weight ratio of the total amount of water (WT) over the amount of silica (a) expressed in dry weight being more than 1.4 and less than 3. The granules are useful as thickening agents with sensory effect in the mouth in dental compositions.
