The present invention relates to the use of an inhibitor of IL.18 in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment and/or prevention of sepsis and other diseases characteristic to the Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) selected from severe sepsis and septic shock, and also for sepsis related cardiac dysfunction.
